Adobe is working on voice-controlled picture editing software

Would you be interested in editing photos using only your voice? That’s what Adobe Research might just be planning to make possible.

The company revealed in a concept video that it’s working on what it’s dubbed “intelligent digital assistant photo editing.” The short video shows a man on his iPad using a modified version of an Adobe photo editing app to make simple edits to his photos with only his voice.

The software isn’t real at the moment, of course, but it’s certainly an interesting idea that Adobe says is “a first step towards a robust multimodal voice-based interface which allows our creative customers to search and edit images in an easy and engaging way using Adobe mobile applications.”

Simple but effective

The edits the video shows are fairly simple and though it would be easy for anyone with photo editing skills to be dismissive of the limitations of the software it could be excellent for those with less complex aims.

If Adobe were able to make software that recognized natural voice commands with accuracy then users with limited photo editing skills, limited mobility, or no access to desktop Adobe services could greatly benefit from it.

If anything, it would benefit Adobe in the sense of opening up its software to a wider user base by making it much more accessible. For detailed work and in-depth control, however, this software is unlikely to be any use.

Adobe hasn’t said when or if it’s planning to develop or release the software but you can see the video of it in action below.
